Fiat Mos
Habit tracker where each habit sets its own detail
v1.3
Most habit trackers decide in advance how much detail a habit deserves, and then every habit has to live with that decision. Flossing gets the same form as a gym session. Fiat Mos moves the choice to you, one habit at a time.
A habit can be: A tick. Done or not done, one tap and the day is finished. A number with a unit. Minutes run, glasses of water, kilos lifted. A rating on a scale you invent. Sleep from 0 to 3, mood from 0 to 7. Something you finish or learn. Books, films, series, drafts, and also the pieces and texts you learn by heart. They live on your Shelf, each kind with its own unit - so pages and minutes can never be added together into one meaningless number. Each kind gets its own calendar and statistics, and each thing shows how far in you are. A workout. Exercises with their sets, reps and weights, or minutes, or distance - each exercise remembers which it is. Last time is shown beside today, every exercise keeps its own history, and a session can be saved as a program. One workout per day, saved as you go. Missed something before midnight? Yesterday stays open. The next morning the list shows what was left, one tap from done. The analysis does not care which you picked. Streaks, totals, averages, medians and history are worked out from your entries every time they are shown and never stored, so they cannot quietly drift out of step with what actually happened. Nothing is deleted behind your back either. Undo writes a new entry rather than removing one, and habits are archived instead of erased. WHAT IT DOES WITH YOUR DATA Nothing at all. There is no account and no telemetry. Everything lives in one file on your phone. Fiat Mos asks for two permissions. Documents, so that Backup can write an export you can carry to a new phone. That export is plain readable JSON: your history stays yours and stays readable even if this app stops existing. And Internet, for one button. When you add a book you can look it up by its ISBN: the ISBN goes to the services you have switched on - Open Library, Libris at the Swedish national library, the German and French national libraries and, only if you allow it, Google Books - and the title, author, length and cover come back. Each of them also sees your phone's IP address. Nothing else is ever sent, nothing is sent until you press Look up, and a service you have not switched on is never contacted. THE NAME fiat - Latin, let there be. From fiat lux in the Vulgate: let there be light, and there was light. mos - Latin, custom, the way a thing is usually done. Its plural, mores, is where morals come from. A habit is a custom you keep with yourself. Part of the fiat family - small Sailfish OS apps that each do one thing plainly. Gutta cavat lapidem, non vi sed saepe cadendo. The drop hollows the stone, not by force but by falling often. Source, issues and licence (MIT): github.com/munksh/FiatMosDownload

Changelog
1.3-1 (2026-10-04)
- The Library is now the Shelf: things you finish (books, films, series, drafts) and things you learn (repertoire, texts), which are marked learned rather than finished. Music you play stays on the shelf. - Work out: a workout habit keeps a list of exercises, and each exercise remembers its own measure - reps and weight, time, time and distance, or free. Last time is shown while you log. Programs save a workout to start from next time. - Workouts: a new page with the week at the top and every exercise as a row with a little line and its current value. An exercise has its own page, with its history from lowest to highest and a sentence first. - New habit is five plain rows: Do it, Count it, Rate it, Finish it, Work out. The empty list offers the same five. - Logging a shelf habit no longer asks what first: pick the amount, and choose a thing only if you like. - Choices are words and on/off are dots, in the manner of the rest of the family. Tags are chosen on a page of their own. - Number fields open the number keyboard. - History starts with a sentence about the habit. - A workout is saved once per day, and statistics no longer count a day twice. - The workout page says workout, not session. Its pull-down leads to Workouts, the exercises have a heading of their own, and a workout without a program starts from last time's exercises. - Programs are lists of exercises you can build before you run them. Starting a workout from one shows last time's numbers, and Exercises and Programs have pages of their own under Workouts. - Time is written in hours, minutes and seconds - the two or three fields you choose - for sleep, sets and everything else measured in time. - On the Shelf the tag row opens downward. Each tag you choose narrows the list, and the number beside a tag is what you would have left if you chose it too. - Your data is kept. Habits that were on the shelf stay on the shelf; the upgrade only adds. Backups now carry exercises and their measures, and backups made by earlier versions still import. - About links to Fiat Lux, Fiat Imago and Fiat Ratio.
